Silje's appearances

the year 2004 - December 26.

Altough the tsunami has no direct relation to Silje's musical live, this catastrophe indeed had huge impact on her and her family. It probably caused the lack of inspiration to write music in the two years that followed, where Silje spoke about later.

Altough not all details are known Silje has told she and her husband Heine were at the beach of one of the islands in Thailand that day, when the tsunami waves entered the beach. They had to rescue both children from the water and nearly survived.
Probably they were at the island Koh Lanta, where for sure Silje's sister Trude was with her two children Hannah and Birk Kristinius. Trude stayed at the Twin Lotus Ressort in a beachfront bungalow at Klong Dao Beach. Her son Birk and his niece (probably one of Silje's children?) floated on a mattrass and could jump on the stairs to a roof terrace from the hotel. Daughter Hannah was swimming and could grab a palmtree before she could climb into a boat. The resorts on Koh Lanta were not hit as hard as other areas in Thailand; most of the resorts had little or no damage.

At the same time a close friend and colleague of Silje and Heine, the saxaphone player Sigurd Køhn (1959-2004), was amoung the many victims in Thailand; also his 16 year old son died. Sigurd and his family were at Kao Lak, only his wife survived.
Heine and Sigurd did some recordings for Heine's CD, just the day before Sigurd went to Thailand. Therefore the last mix Sigurd that day had heard of the song Don't Regret was used on Heine's first solo album Tough Times For Gentlemen.
