The building is where the Constitution of Norway was signed on 17 May 1814. The estate is now owned by The State of Norway and is a museum. Shortly after this eventful spring of 1814, the Eidsvoll building became important as a symbol of Norwegian independence. In 1851 the building became Norwegians first national cultural monument. |
